Association of
Surgeons in Jamaica

Membership Guide Lines

Full-members are eligible after completion of higher surgical training at a recognized institution. The applicant’s request will be examined and a decision of acceptance will be made by the ASJ council. Specialists in Non-surgical fields of training may also be eligible.

Associate membership requirements include completion of undergraduate training and enrollment in a recognized surgical training program.

Charity Work

The ASJ has been involved in charity work throughout the island with our members working with others of the health team to provide additional surgical care outside scheduled times to reduce waiting times. Operations and clinics are routinely held on public holidays such as Labour Day. Through efforts from the Ministry of Health, resources have been made available recently to have extended operating times at the University Hospital, an initiative soon to be extended to other hospitals across Jamaica.
